Snowy Owl

Snowy Owls do not regularly occur in the lower 48. They are "irruptive" which means they show up in North-eastern States, Montana and rarely Idaho when conditions in their northern environs (breed and live in the Arctic) are so bountiful that large clutches of healthy chicks are produced and the population booms. That is a simple explanation for a vastly more complicated biological phenomenon. The last incredible irruption occurred in the winter of 2013-2014 when huge numbers of Snowy's were observed all over the United States and even as far south as Florida!
