Rocky Mountain Spring

Growing up in Western Montana, I would spend time exploring the woods and searching for morels with my family, especially my Dad. The western forests in spring offer many treasures to those who seek them and rarely, occasionally, we would stumble across lady-slipper orchids. Some were white and other's yellow. The Small Yellow Lady's-slipper orchid is featured in this piece as well as my Dad's favorite butterfly, the Mourning Cloak, which is also my favorite butterfly species. This piece was done in memory of my Dad who passed away in 2021, so it is special to me and a beautiful memory of times spent together exploring nature.
